My most recent work is gouache on paper with imagery inspired by my love of nature, particularly birds. I have always had an affinity for birds. Perhaps it's my fascination with the power of flight and the consequent freedom that wings afford these lovely creatures. Birds are delicate and beautiful and free and seem to inhabit a world parallel to ours, near at hand but a bit secret. They are also avatars of glorious song and vibrant color and symbolize my highest aspirations. I use various media to convey the different parts of ourselves that birds represent...parts of us not bound to earth. There is the delicate line work of my radiograph pen, so fine and detailed, feather by feather. Then a small pastel delights with color and softness. My linoleum block print exposes a different side of the creature, a bit stark and simplified. Finally, in water based media, like gouache, I realize a holistic sense of the magic and mystery that is nature. My work speaks of my ideals and is truly a reflection of me at this point in time. I long for freedom and beauty and to live in a magical world. And oh, to be able to fly.....
